After several meetings between the Selection Committee, we are proud to announce the winners of the 2018 Cathleen Kneen Award, two extraordinary mentors and community builders.

We hope that you can come and join us in celebrating these exceptional leaders in the food movement. Hosted by Brewster Kneen and Susan Roberts, the awards ceremony will take place Sunday November 4th at 10:00 am, as part of Resetting the Table, the 10th Assembly of Food Secure Canada.

Vincent Frenette, who for the past 15 years has been running Le Filon, a food security organization in Lévis, Québec. Vincent works tirelessly behind the scenes, fighting to recognize the right to food, in addition to being a leader in food security. Weaving a grassroots movement around his projects, Vincent’s vision of sustainable food has permeated through other initiatives in social development and the fight against poverty, in both his city of Lévis and the region of Chaudière-Appalaches.

lham Saydna is an integral pillar in many communities – food security movements in Toronto, Muslim and Sudanese-Canadian communities, the growing Arabic-speaking immigrants and refugees, helping them to navigate the complicated systems in Canada, and many more. She’s dedicated to the work continuing with younger generations and is an inspiration to all of us who work for social and environmental justice in the world.
