I believe food security and the need for a Canada wide food strategy will be an extremely important issue in the next federal election. And even more urgent as details of recently announced free trade deals with Europe and Korea become known. This government is hell bent on putting local farmers on the fast track of free market competition with world wide producers who do not work from a fair playing field. Standards of food quality, workers wages and food safety will only be eroded as the bottom line will dictate who survives and who goes under in this brave new mercantile world.
