Consultation Update: Presenting Policy Recommendations to Government as a Collective Voice
Food Secure Canada (FSC) is excited to share an important step in our journey towards just, healthy, and sustainable food systems. On May 2nd, we presented comprehensive briefs to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). These briefs, developed from the insights gathered during our May 9th consultation, are set to shape the renewal of the Food Policy for Canada.
The consultation brought together over 140 people passionate about food policy, whose knowledge and commitment shaped these recommendations. We dove into 6 important topics, selected based on FSC's awareness of the government's emerging priorities.
Six Briefs Presented to AAFC
- Food Loss and Waste
- Strengthening Indigenous Food Systems
- School Food
- Resilient Communities
- Food Security
- Food Policy Governance
- The insights from the Francophone Group breakout session have been integrated into the corresponding sections of the other briefs where relevant.
These reports embody the diverse voices and ideas brought forward in the breakout groups, and serve as a testament to the essential role that public participation, collective action and community voice(s) play in transforming our food systems.
Links to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been established in the reports to give the government a clear vision of how the recommendations align with their commitment to progressing the 2030 Agenda.
Stay tuned for more updates on the impact of this Consultation.
