HungerCount 2013 now available!
The HungerCount 2013 report shows an alarming 25% increase in food bank use between 2008 and 2013. The report highlights that in a typical month, food banks provide food to more than 830,000 people, and more than 300,000 of those helped are children.
The study also found that:
- Each month, 80,000 Canadians ask for help from a food bank for the first time.
- 40,000 of those helped each month are seniors.
- 1 in 6 households assisted by food banks are currently or recently employed.
- Nearly half of households receiving food are families with children.
The HungerCount 2013 report provides recommendations to federal and provincial governments that, if implemented, will make significant progress in reducing the number of people who need help from food banks.
