The Province
On Saturday, the Strathcona Youth Council planted a moveable vertical garden in the school’s courtyard, using a variety of building materials to create structures for beans and strawberries.
A shelving unit will hold terra-cotta pots that can be planted in classrooms and then placed outside to grow, while an upright PVC pipe will house strawberries. Beans will grow on wire fencing, and pallets placed upright will contain rows of food-bearing plants. Pop bottles that have been cut in half will be mounted on a wall to create even more garden space.
