Animating Good Food Ideas

For those of you in Toronto on January 24, do not miss this event! Helena Norberg-Hodge, an important figure in the anti-globalisation movement, will talk at a screening of her latest film The Economics of Happiness.  The film will be followed by a panel discussion with Helena Norberg-Hodge, activist chef Joshna Maharaj and urban farmer Eric Rosenkrantz, moderated by author (and FSC Steering Committee member) Wayne Roberts.

The Economics of Happiness describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. On the one hand, government and big business continue to promote globalization and the consolidation of corporate power. At the same time, all around the world people are resisting those policies, demanding a re-regulation of trade and finance—and, far from the old institutions of power, they’re starting to forge a very different future. Communities are coming together to re-build more human scale, ecological economies based on a new paradigm – an economics of localization.”

The screening will be preceded by an exhibition of infographics (visualised information) and short animated films called Animating Good Food Ideas. The works, designed by Sheridan College BAA Illustration students discuss various issues within our food system, from food preservation to dwindling bee populations.

Students had four weeks to complete the project, and the result is inspiring, informative, and in some cases presented with Tim Burtonesque creativity. It is certainly not to be missed!
