Recap: Cultivating Change

Tuesday, November 24, 2020 - 12:49pm

Thank you for joining us at #CultivatingChange2020! We received approximately 1200 registrations and, over the past few days, we came together for the first online Food Secure Canada gathering. Despite the distance, we shared dozens of photos, exchanged over 1100 messages, all while participating in bilingual and sometimes trilingual sessions.

1,244 registered 14 sessions 39 community board topics
61 speakers and  moderators 1,147 messages exchanged 50 photos shared

Together, we looked at the intersections between food systems, anti-racism, decolonization, and environmental justice movements, learning from Indigenous, Black and racialized food leaders, building our collective consciousness and capacity for anti-racist and decolonized approaches to allyship within the food movement.

On behalf of Food Secure Canada, we thank you for learning alongside us.

But cultivating change does not stop here:

  • You can continue conversations on Whova: Attendees will be able to message each other for 3 months post-event on the web app, 6 months post-event on the mobile app. You will have access to the discussion groups, recordings etc. for this  time.
  • Missed a session? Recordings are available on the Whova app or in the program (button above).
  • Use the postcard! Answer the questions in your participant postcard, and keep it somewhere where you will be reminded to continue seeding racial justice and decolonization in your work.
  • Read our evergreen food policy action plan, Growing Resilience and Equity
  • Stay in touch. Sign up for updates from FSC or the Coalition for Healthy School Food from our websites, follow us on Twitter @foodsecurecan, Facebook @foodsecurecanada, and Instagram @fscrad.

Participants from Cultivating Change joined us from across the world – from New Zealand to Benin to the United Kingdom. Thank you for participating!
