Back to Our Roots: 2017 NAN Food Symposium
The Nishnawbe Aski Nation Food Symposium started in 2009 as a way to bring people together to talk about food. It has been an annual event since then, each one building on the recommendations from participants. It provides an opportunity to learn and share information and skills to take back to the community to assist in community based food initiatives.
Join this 8th NAN Food Symposium for another exciting food gathering in beautiful Quetico National Park approximately 1 hour west of Thunder Bay. The camp is situated on the lake with great accommodations and recreational activities. Most of the presenters will be from your communities and eager to share their knowledge and skills with you.
Presenters will speak on topics such as Hunting and Fishing, Herbal Medicines, Gardening, Youth Garden and Greenhouse Visit, Community Food Initiatives, Wild Food Canning,
Wild Rice Harvesting and Preparation, Cooking-sour doughbread, fermented veggies and sprouts!
