Webinar: Healthy Food Zones - Assessing Food Outlet Density and Purchasing Behavior of Students
Hosted by: Nutrition Resource Center
OCTOBER 15th FROM 12:00 TO 1:00 PM
Many high schools are surrounded by fast food restaurants and convenience stores, which provide students with easier access to unhealthy food and beverages. York Region Public Health initiated the Healthy Food Zones Project to examine the influence of the built environment on food choices made by York Region secondary students.
This webinar will highlight:
- An overview of the school nutrition environment including research on zoning bylaws
- The results of an on-line survey with York Region high school students examining food purchasing behaviours and food choices from surrounding food outlets and the school cafeteria
- GIS mapping providing a geospatial depiction of the issue to supplement the survey data
- Future plans to build partnerships and influence local planning decisions in relation to the proximity of food outlets to secondary schools
Date:
Thu, 2015/10/15 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm
