Celebrating our Leaders

Congratulations to Joyce Rock, recipient of the 3M Health Leadership Award!  Joyce, a steering committee member of Food Secure Canada, was the first person to receive this new award for leaders who inspire change in communities across Canada. As the former Executive Director of the Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House in Vancouver and co-founder of the Kitchen Tables Project,  Joyce’s work reformed the quality, nutritional impact, abundance and delivery of food across the down-town east side in consultation with residents, community food providers, community organizations, healthcare workers, policy makers, growers/suppliers and others.

Nominate another food leader for this award by June 22!

Congratulations to Cathleen Kneen, former chair and current Steering Committee member of Food Secure Canada, recipient of a lifetime achievement award from the Organic Council of Ontario.

Cathleen’s contribution to organics started many decades ago as a farmer on the east coast with her husband, Brewster.  Cathleen’s mentorship of community food activists across the country has created a community of people dedicated to including farmers and food producers in the food security conversation.

She has championed organic production as an integral part of both emergency food and long term sustainability.
