Welcoming Gisèle Yasmeen as FSC's new Executive Director
Dear friends and supporters of Food Secure Canada,
The Board of Directors is delighted to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director, Gisèle Yasmeen. Gisèle comes to Food Secure Canada as a Senior Fellow at the University of British Columbia and Adjunct Professor at Royal Roads University. She brings a deep food systems lens to her work, having worked on food issues in both Asia and Canada since the early 1990s, and has held a diversity of leadership roles in the not-for-profit, public and university sectors including seven years as Vice-President of Research and Partnerships at the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Gisèle has advised numerous organizations including the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, “The Big Picnic” (a European-Union funded project on food security involving botanical gardens), and the Laurier Centre for Sustainable Food Systems to name a few. We are proud to welcome Gisele’s dynamic skills and experience to help guide Food Secure Canada in our next steps to help strengthen, advance and support the needs of Canada’s growing food movement. We encourage you to learn more about Gisele through this interview here.
Gisèle will officially take on Executive Director functions as of May 13th and will begin full time in Montreal in July. Over the coming two weeks, Gisèle will be working with outgoing Executive Director Diana Bronson and our staff and board to ensure a smooth transition.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve Food Secure Canada at this time where there is such great momentum. I commit to working in close collaboration with the board, membership and staff of this fantastic organization to collectively move forward to build a healthy, just and sustainable food system” -- Gisèle Yasmeen

This change in leadership coincides with a deeper organizational renewal that is underway, as we reflect on our values, goals, and priorities, and ways of working together. I hope that as a member, partner, and collaborator you too will help contribute to these discussions and join me in welcoming Gisèle.
Again, we want to express our deepest gratitude to Diana Bronson for her incredible leadership and distinctive vision which has guided FSC for the past seven years. We are wishing her a restful summer and all the best in the new opportunities, challenges and adventures she takes on next .
