Dear Diana,

Thank you for taking the time to write and share your concerns regarding Bill C-18, the Agricultural Growth Act. The bill amends nine separate pieces of agriculture-related legislation affecting plant breeders’ rights, feed, seed, fertilizer, animal health, plant protection, monetary penalties, agriculture marketing programs and farm debt mediation. Largely it appears that this bill attempts to streamline regulatory processes affecting farmers and the agriculture industry more broadly.

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting, Local & Sustainable Food Systems Network

From November 24th - 27th, 2013, members of the Network converged in Montreal from across Canada to participate in 4 days of events focused on learning for and networking amongst the participants. From farm tours to social finance, from new markets for “trash fish” to enhanced business skills, from policy training and plotting, Network members were exposed to and engaged in a broad ranging set of presentations and discussions. The first day and a half focused on the Food Business Bootcamp and then the meeting shifted into policy, information exchange and networking.

2e rencontre annuelle du réseau pour un système d’alimentation locale et durable

Plus de 60 personnes ont convergé vers Montréal pour la deuxième réunion annuelle du réseau pour un système d’alimentation locale et durable. La rencontre a débuté avec une visite de la ferme Les Cèdres, sur les rives du fleuve Saint-Laurent. Dix-neuf intrépides ont bravé le vent et la météo glaciale pour écouter Daniel Brisebois de la Ferme Tourne-Sol et Loïc Dewavrin de la Ferme Longpres raconter l’histoire de leurs entreprises respectives.

Business Coaching Fund announcement

The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation has established a fund to support business coaching for local and sustainable food systems businesses. The coaching is intended to build on the information available through the Business Bootcamp series, a partnership between Food Secure Canada and The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation. Food Business Bootcamp Webinars

McConnell Family Foundation, the Local & Sustainable Food Systems Network of Food Secure Canada is hosting a Food Business Bootcamp. Changing How Campuses Learn and Eat through Coursework

Presented in collaboration with the Campus Food Systems project, a joint Meal Exchange and Sierra Youth Coalition initiative.
