Local Food Day
Regardless of your views on Thanksgiving, a bill recently introduced in the House of Commons will give all Canadians something to celebrate this time of year. If it passes, Bill-C579, introduced by NDP MP Malcolm Allen, will make the Friday before Thanksgiving "Local Food Day".
According to Ron Bonnett, president of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, "The idea is to really recognize what Canadian producers do, the quality of the product they're providing, and the fact it's at a very reasonable price. It goes even beyond food. It's about the economic activity they create in rural communities, all of the environmental benefits that we're providing for society and just overall, contributing to the health of Canada."
