The new NFU campaign aims to save your seed

The National Farmers Union (NFU) has recently launched a campaign against the Canada-European Union (EU) Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).  Like many free trade agreements, this will essentially be restrictive to Canadians; if and when the agreement is signed, Canadian farmers will lose sovereignty over agricultural policy and their farms to the EU and global corporations.  NFU President Terry Boehm warns: "The CETA would mean many changes, but none more negative than its effect to extinguish farmers' rights to save and re-use seeds."  Failure to comply could result in the seizure of farms.  The NFU cautions that the agreement will further exacerbate Canada's already dire farm income crisis.  Canadian farm debt has skyrocketed to $64 billion, increasing the strain on our food system.
