The People's Food Policy Project is launched!

The People's Food Policy Project (PFPP) was launched on April 18th with the release of Resetting the Table: A People's Food Policy for Canada.  For the past two years, the PFPP, a grassroots movement of organisations and civilians, has engaged 3,500 across the country in the creation of a Candian food sovereignty policy. Kitchen Table Talks were held in municipalities nationwide in order to create a policy that truly represents the needs and desires of Canadians.

Resetting the Table calls for a federal food policy that ensures Canadians healthy, local food, supports producers, involves the public in decision-making and creates a children's food policy.  It seeks to respond to the current and potentional problems in the food system and states that "[t]he evidence of [the] need [for a federal food policy] is stark. Despite living in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, close to two and a half million Canadians are moderately or severely food insecure."

The release of Resetting the Table has received extensive media coverage, in the Globe and Mail, the CBC and in papers across the country (see here for a list). To find ways to get involved and to make food a key election issue, click here.
