A World Food Day “throne speech”

Ottawa Citizen

On October 16th, 2013, the Governor General will deliver his speech from the throne. This event is a key opportunity for the federal government to outline its main priorities and vision for the year to come. We are sure to hear him speak about jobs, growth, and the economy. Absent from the speech will undoubtedly be a statement regarding the alarming (and appalling) growing rates of hunger in Canada and globally. The fact that his speech is happening on World Food Day may be lost to those on the Hill but not to those working in food banks, community gardens, soup kitchens, and the broader movement for social justice across Canada.
